Document Prep vs. Legal Advice: What I Do (and Don’t Do)

One of the most common questions I receive is about what a document preparer or paralegal-style service can legally do. It’s an important distinction—and one that helps keep services transparent, affordable, and within professional boundaries.

As a non-attorney document preparer, my role is to help clients organize and prepare paperwork, drafts, and forms based on their direction. I can assist with:

  • Document formatting and layout

  • Research and template guidance

  • Summaries, correspondence, or intake forms

  • Business and administrative support tasks

  • Resume and career document creation

However, I cannot provide legal advice, interpret the law, or represent anyone in court. I don’t make legal recommendations or determine what forms someone should file—that part always belongs to a licensed attorney.

Staying within these guidelines ensures that every service remains ethical and compliant, while still providing individuals and small businesses the support they need to stay organized and prepared.

If you ever need a referral for a licensed Georgia attorney who handles more complex legal matters, I maintain a current referral list and am happy to share it. Transparency helps everyone get the right level of assistance for their needs.
